Leavenworth, Washington. This inaugural entry continues a story that began in the Eastern Cape of South Africa 17 years ago in 1992. It's a personal tale of aspiring with friends and colleagues to a still better way - living life "
profitably" while caring about
people and
planet. Not without struggle and frustration and heartbreak, the story continues to unfold on a magical property called
Gqunube Green. Set on the Gqunube River, Gqunube Green ecovillage is a 97 hectare property of forests and grasslands and fertile bottomlands. It sports a breathtakingly beautiful view of the river's tranquil lagoon as it flows across a wide, sandy beach into the blue Indian Ocean beyond. People are settling this acreage of promise and arrive with the vision of "a still better way." The ongoing story promises to be an exciting one, at the very least an interesting one. This blog invites you to journey with me so that together we might learn.....and jointly aspire to the Gqunube Green's of our own futures and continents. Please feel free to comment by posting your own thoughts. - Roger Hudson

-Alberton, South Africa. I like your description of "a still better way". It speaks of a journey of discovery. Shirley and I are completely new to this idea of living in such a community - but it is to this community that we aspire. I think that when we open ourselves to God's guidance in these matters and both look at and listen to Jesus as he relates to this planet we will get in tune with the one 'through whom all things were made, and without whom nothing was made that has been made'. He speaks of the 'prodigal sower' and the discovery of 'treasure' in a field and the only time he ever records anything is when he bends down to write in the dusty earth in order to set a woman free from the bigotry of men. We are searching for a better way - we believe we will find it at Gqunube Green, but we know that it is truly the "still more excellent way" of love for God, earth and each other that will satisfy us. Peter, Your reference to "the still more excellent way" of love of God refers....Perhaps the starting point of Gqunube Green is a confession that Christiandom has not extended the love of God towards God's creation. Our prayer is that GG can empower us to make a humble beginning at doing just that....which will require some innovative thinking and practice on the journey. Roger
